Enjoy a family day out, learn more about local produce and sample a selection of ice cream flavours in Dumfries & Galloway.
Families can get a real taste for Dumfries & Galloway, learning more about how the local produce is made at the same time. Delicious melt in your mouth ice cream awaits at Cream o’ Galloway, where a wide range of flavours are made from simple, natural products.
Join the Ice Cream Experience to sample a selection, discover why each is concocted and see the equipment used to transform the raw materials. The tours take place daily, so you won’t miss out on choosing from around 30 different ice creams with options such as Chocolate to Die For, Sticky Toffee, fruity Strawberry Pavlova and the sophisticated Whisky, Honey & Oatmeal.
Short guided walks around the farm are also available so that the children can see the sheep pens as well as watching the dairy herd as they come in for milking. An innovative approach to sustainable farming means that these are some of the most contented cows in the UK, with a brand new dairy to roam around.
While you’re here, take a quiet walk along a nature trail to see what wildlife you can spot. With 4 miles of trails, walk past two lochans and through beautiful ancient woodland to witness deer, foxes and sometimes even red squirrels. Cream o’ Galloway is also home to indoor and outdoor play areas as well as a flying fox where the kids can soar across 30 m.
Drummuir Farm Ice Cream Parlour near Dumfries is also an excellent option, established in 1991. Here you can sample a host of homemade ice creams and sundaes before the kids venture into the play areas.
Farm parks offer another great day out where children can feed the animals and enjoy outdoor activities. After a morning or afternoon of adventure, make sure you pop into the farm tearooms and shops. At Mabie Farm Park you can enjoy homemade soup, salads, sandwiches and cakes before sampling another scoop of Cream o’ Galloway ice cream.
