Meet local producers, sample wonderful produce and make friends along the way as you enjoy a range of markets and head to the Flavour Fortnight.

Enjoy Dumfries & Galloway’s range of foodie events and markets; a great way to meet the producers and soak up the lively atmosphere.

From village halls to Wigtown Market Cross, a variety of venues across the region play host to monthly farmers’ markets. Purchase fine cheeses, locally reared meats, jams, preserves and fresh bread to cook up your very own feast and take home local crafts for friends and family. Why not talk to the stallholders to learn more about the produce and pick up some tips on the best techniques and recipes you can use to create tasty dishes?

Take part in a diverse range of events celebrating food and drink at Dumfries & Galloway’s Flavour Fortnight. Coinciding with the Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight in September, choose from around 90 special events where you can sample fine produce, learn more from knowledgeable experts and savour the dishes of wonderful menus at establishments around the region.

Find out all about how salmon, trout, seafood and game are smoked at the Galloway Smokehouse, combine wonderful home baking with jazz music at the Galloway Lodge and try some of Cream o’ Galloway’s seriously indulgent ice cream cakes.

Families will love exploring the woods on a guided foraging tour where the mild, damp climate provides perfect conditions for a wealth of flora and fauna to thrive. Identify everything from ceps to hedgehog fungi and make sure you bring a basket along to collect the treasures you discover. You can even head along to Threave Garden, where delicious fruit and vegetables selected from the garden are being used in dishes at the restaurant as part of the Flavour Fortnight.

Whether you are looking to sample a dram of distinctive whisky or you simply wish to pick up tempting delights to create your own meal, Dumfries & Galloway is a haven for foodies all year round.
