Keep your feet firmly on dry land for some action-packed days out and admire truly breathtaking landscapes in the south of Scotland.

Varied and rugged scenery is perfect for all manner of adventures in Dumfries & Galloway. Why not head out for a full day of horse riding or enjoy a more leisurely trek?

Riding schools and stables offer horses for hire and you can gallop across deserted beaches and flat topped ridges, follow bridle paths through the valleys and appreciate wonderful woodland in the Galloway Forest Park. Begin a ride at the Glentrool Visitor Centre and soak up the feeling of freedom as you make your way on horseback.

Try something different and brave the grassy slopes with your feet strapped to a mountain board. Similar to snowboarding, there are tracks to suit all abilities so you can take things at your own pace. You can also descend the hills using a mountain ball which will certainly offer an adrenaline rush.

If you prefer the challenge of the climb, get off the beaten track on the Galloway Hills, which boast some great crags along the Mullwharchar Range. Alternatively, you can stick to activity centres such as Galloway Activity Centre, where the 25 ft climbing tower offers a choice of three basic climbs, as well as a zip wire.

Clay pigeon shooting and archery are great for a spot of target practice amid the wonderful scenery and there are many places where you can hone your skills. Indoor archery is also available so that you can enjoy the activity no matter what the weather.

Adventurous activities are around each corner in Dumfries & Galloway from ancient sports to brand new creations.
