Dumfries and County Golf Club
A beautiful course set in fairly flat parkland, bordered on the north and the west by the River Nith, deservedly one of the "Tigers" of Dumfries & Galloway.
The course seems like a pleasant walk through mature woodland, but from the start, mature trees ensure that the golfer has to watch out for those wayward drives!
Some of the holes are slightly quirky especially the Par 3s - not as easy as they look, this calls for skill in avoiding trees and holding the greens. Contrastingly, a section of the front nine has been laid out on rolling farmland allowing views towards the Lowther Hills. The hole to watch out for is "Spion Kop", the 5th hole with the River Nith on its right. It is a 374-yard Par 4 from an elevated tee to an elevated green which drops off to the left and rear so your approach shot is of prime importance. Don't slice your drive or your golf ball will end up nicely in the middle of the River out of bounds!!
