Home to an amazing variety of wildlife, this green spot is the perfect place for a stroll whatever the season and time of day.
The Galloway Forest Park is the largest in Britain, with around 210 million trees and 250 lochs. Take a trip here one day and appreciate the ancient woodland and stunning valleys while you walk along beside the burns, which cascade down the majestic slopes.
The forests and moorland here provides the perfect environment for wildlife to flourish and has several special areas dedicated to different animals, so you can see them in their natural habitat. Keep your eyes peeled for the wild goat park, where this ancient breed roams freely, and for the park’s largest land mammal, the red deer.
Capture your desire for exciting adventure and take advantage of the two 7stanes mountain biking centres, based within the park. Glentrool and Kirroughtree are both fantastic areas with different graded trails and tracks suitable for both seasoned cyclists and beginners.
While the park is the perfect place to walk in the daytime, it is also one of the greatest spots in the UK to do some stargazing with the naked eye, as it’s the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only two in Europe. View over 7,000 stars in the sky as well as the Milky Way, all without the need of a telescope. Download the handy Dark Sky Park visitor guide, Scotland's Stellar Spectacular, for a quick introduction to stargazing and hints and tips on what you can see in the night sky.
From wildlife to adventure, stargazing to strolling, there are many activities to make a great day out in the Galloway Forest Park.
